What Would MacGyver Do?

What Would MacGyver Do?

WWMD?

..what would MacGyver do?

If you haven’t checked out the Single Cup Travel coffee maker then you are missing out! You will never have to be without a cup of coffee again. We thought about all the options one may have when traveling or somehow woke up in a strange place  (none of our business) that didn’t have a coffee maker. Here are some theories we have on how MacCyver would handle such a problem.

Method 1: Tea Bagging!

Yea, we said it. Read on....Consider how you’d use a teabag to make tea: You’d steep the bag in hot water until it was brewed to taste, then you’d enjoy a cup of hot tea.

Take that idea and apply it to coffee. That’s what we have here.

  1. Place a spoonful of coffee onto a coffee filter.
  2. Use a string, hair tie, or rubber band to tie the filter and tightly secure the grounds inside the makeshift bag.
  3. Steep the bag in a mug of hot water and let it brew to taste. A few minutes should do the trick.

Method 2: Channel your inner cowboy.

This is the rugged, no-nonsense way to make coffee. All you’ll need is coffee grounds, water, a pot, and a heat source (this could be your stove or a campfire).

  1. For every 4 oz. of water you use, you’ll need about a tablespoon of ground coffee. Bring water to a boil.
  2. When the water is boiling, remove it from the heat source and let it sit for about 30 seconds. This will cool the water to about 200°, which is the perfect coffee brewing temperature.
  3. Stir the grounds into the water. Let sit for two minutes and stir again.
  4. Let sit for two more minutes.
  5. Pour the coffee carefully into your mug. The key is to pour very slowly, so that the grounds remain at the bottom of the pot.

Method 3: Improvise a French press.

Here’s how to make a bold cup of coffee with just coffee grounds, water, a bowl, a tablespoon, and a mug. To make one cup:

  1. Add 1 tablespoon of coffee grounds to a bowl.
  2. Pour just enough boiling water over the grounds to saturate it. Let stand for 30 seconds to a minute.
  3. Pour the rest of the water needed to make the desired amount of coffee. Let stand for four to five minutes.
  4. Carefully pour the coffee into your mug. Again, doing this slowly and delicately will ensure the grounds remain at the bottom of the bowl where they belong.

Method 4: The Catfight Single Cup Pourover coffee maker!

Our Single Cup Pour Over travel coffee maker is clearly the best option. It weighs 7oz, about the size of a can of soup, and makes THE best cup of coffee.

1. Put two spoons full of coffee in the filter basket.

2. Attach the filter basket to the base and add the water reservoir

3. Press the on button (runs off 2 AA batteries)

4. Wait 120 seconds and enjoy!

Happy Birthday Tura Satana.

Happy Birthday Tura Satana.

For those who don’t recognize Tura’s name, you might recognize the Russ Meyer movie ‘Faster Pussycat Kill, Kill’. You know the buxom brunette with the long black hair and tight bangs in the leather jumpsuit, kicking everyone's ass and driving sports cars across the desert? That's Tura Satana.

Monday Mayhem Spotify Takeover; Eric Bower from Broken Lamps celebrating Tura Satana and Ennio Morricone.

Monday Mayhem Spotify Takeover; Eric Bower from Broken Lamps celebrating Tura Satana and Ennio Morricone.

I think the easiest way to describe this Monday Mayhem, in a blanket, easy to digest way is this. Imagine the songs from a Quentin Tarantino movie that has never been released, played by an all-original band led by a guy who paid his dues in the Philly Punk Scene.

Eric Bower of the Broken Lamps put this playlist together as part of our week to honor what would have been Tura Satana's 82nd birthday. As most of you know, Tura was the star of the big daddy of all B’-movie/Sexploitation films ‘Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill’. We honored her legacy by making an officially licensed Tura Satana Coffee.

Eric put this playlist together over the weekend and today we wake to find the passing of Ennio Morricone who scored countless Italian Spaghetti Westerns and was most famous for the soundtrack to ‘The Good, The Bad and the Ugly’. The Italian Spaghetti Westerns are close bedfellows with the Sexploitation genre, both living in the neighborhood of B-Movies.

In light of Ennio's passing, we took the liberty to also add some Ennio Morricone songs as well as some contemporary artists who we influenced by Russ Meyers, Tura Satana, and the B Movie Genre. Hopefully, we created a timeline to show why these movies and scores are not only important on their influence on contemporary rock bands, but they are fun as hell. Either way, it will have people within close earshot saying, ‘What the hell are you listening to?’ And that’s really what it’s all about, right?

Make sure you check out Broken Lamps!

Black Magic Milkshake to celebrate National Milkshake Day!

Black Magic Milkshake to celebrate National Milkshake Day!

This Saturday is National Milkshake Day, and Sunday is Father's Day. Sharing a cold one with Dad is a time-honored tradition. But what would make that time-honored tradition even better is if it were a cold one from Catfight Coffee and mashing it up with National Milkshake day! This simple but delectable recipe can be enjoyed sans alcohol or with.

-We chose to use 2 scoops Nasto’s Vanilla Ice Cream. Here in Newark NJ Nasto’s has been serving toothsome Gelato, Sorbet, Ice Cream, and deserts since 1939. The recipes from Nocera Italy have been passed down for 3 generations.

-Next, we used 1/2 a cup of our Catfight Coffee Black Magic Cold Brew Coffee that we had seeped overnight. Our Black Magic cold brew is rich and smooth with sort of chocolate walnut taste. Perfect on it’s on, sinful when added to Ice Cream.

-We blend that together and drizzled it with chocolate syrup.

-If you want to add a spike of boozy chocolate, we can’t recommend Mozarts Milk Chocolate enough. It’s a chocolate liquor that is made from Belgium Chocolate with a mixture of cocoa beans from West Africa. Premium stuff for sure.

Boom! There’s your cold one to knock back with pop.

Remember this week we have a special on cold brew coffee; Buy a 3 pack of Black Magic Cold Brew and get 30% off Eclipse Dark Roast Cold Brew.
