The loss of value in the coffee supply chain resonates deeply with the ethos of counterculture and resistance against mainstream exploitation. Within our community, the quest for authenticity, ethical consumption, and social justice extends to every facet of life, including coffee. As Martin Luther King said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
At its core, the plight of smallholder coffee farmers mirrors the struggles faced by many small businesses in your area – marginalized by larger systems and corporations. The DIY spirit that permeates our scene aligns with the grassroots efforts of these farmers, who often lack access to resources and face exploitation by middlemen.
The issue of value loss in the coffee supply chain underscores broader inequalities, echoing the sentiments of rebellion against corporate greed and exploitation that are central to punk and alternative lifestyles. The middlemen who exploit farmers' lack of bargaining power resonate with the larger theme of challenging oppressive structures and advocating for equitable treatment.
For individuals within our communities, supporting ethically sourced coffee becomes not just a consumer choice but a political statement. It reflects a commitment to solidarity with marginalized producers and a rejection of exploitative practices inherent in conventional supply chains.
In essence, the struggle against value loss in the coffee supply chain becomes a rallying point for all of us, reinforcing their ethos of resistance, social justice, and ethical consumption in a world where mainstream systems often prioritize profit over people and planet.

This isn't our first time there. The last time was 4 years ago just before we started Catfight Coffee. Returning to the same plantation where we planted coffee trees when Catfight was just a seed of an idea, is, absolutely returning to our roots. After many hugs and laughs we talked about what happned in the past 4 years. We were able to piviot and take advantage of peoples attention who were stranded at home due to COVID. But for the farmers, it's a different story.
Social distancing measures disrupted traditional communal farming practices. Closure of cafes and economic downturn led to a drop in coffee prices, compounding financial hardships for farmers who relied on the crop for their livelihoods.
Amidst these challenges, some farmers demonstrated resilience. They turned to direct-to-consumer sales, utilizing social media to reach a global audience. Our farmers became Organic Certified, Free Trade Certified and doubled down on their efforts to become more gender inclusive. This was the postitive out of the negative.
Coffee from Bali stands out for its exceptional quality and distinctive flavor profile, making it a sought-after choice among coffee enthusiasts. The island's unique geographical features play a pivotal role, with high-altitude plantations, diverse microclimates, and nutrient-rich volcanic soil contributing to the cultivation of superior coffee beans. Predominantly Arabica varieties, favored for their nuanced flavors, thrive in Bali's cooler elevations, adding to the exceptional taste of Balinese coffee.
Cultural influences also shape the coffee's excellence, as local farmers, often smallholders, infuse their craft with pride and dedication. Traditional and sustainable farming practices, including shade-grown cultivation, further enhance the beans' quality. The processing methods, such as wet or semi-washed processes, are executed with care, preserving the intrinsic flavors.
Balinese coffee benefits from a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation, with farmers often adopting organic and sustainable practices. This commitment to quality, combined with the island's rich cultural heritage, results in a coffee that captivates the senses, offering a symphony of flavors and aromas unique to the enchanting landscapes of Bali.
We could not be more proud to have a single origin coffee picked straight from the hands of these farmers, right to your cup.

When we started Catfight Coffee one of the first items we had on the website was a travel coffee maker. Probably not the smartest idea since this was the middle of the pandemic and nobody could travel. Despite the poor timing, the Oceanrich Single Cup Coffee maker sold out quickly. Oceanrich was a new company (just like us) and decided to focus on the Asian market, thos ending any North American distribution. We were bummed, but totally understood. Here we are almost 4 years later and both our companies are doing great! A couple of weeks ago, our old friends reached out to us to let us know that not only were they ready for the North American market, but they have a new and improved Single Cup battery operated coffee maker.
The Oceanrich X7 travel coffee maker is a compact and versatile device that offers a host of benefits for coffee enthusiasts on the go. With its sleek and portable design, it's perfect for travelers, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone who craves a quality cup of coffee away from home.
The X7 boasts exceptional convenience. Its single-button operation and rapid brewing process make it incredibly easy to use, ensuring you can have a hot cup of coffee in just a few minutes, no matter where you are.
Additionally, the X7 is battery operated, eliminating the need for power outlets. This means you can brew your coffee in remote locations, during road trips, camping adventures, or even on long flights. Its compact size also makes it easy to stow in a backpack or carry-on luggage.
The X7's innovative brewing technology ensures that your coffee is brewed to perfection, extracting rich flavors and maintaining the ideal brewing temperature. This results in a consistently great-tasting cup of coffee, just the way you like it.
As for quality, we have used our original Version 1 on all our travels and rock n roll touring since we got one 4 years ago. It seems like these little machines like travel and coffee just as much as we do!

Our very own Catfight Horror Queen Kris is back! It's summertime and lots of us are going away on vacation. Make sure to check those hotel and motel reviews or you may end up in... Motel Hell! Check out Kris's review of this 80's VHS classic!
Directed by Kevin Connor, this horror comedy was released on October 18th, 1980. Filmed in multiple locations in California, it was shot in less than 2 months with absolutely no preservatives attached……
The movie introduces us to Terry and her boyfriend out riding a motorcycle, when something causes them to crash. Vincent, who is watching from a distance, makes his way to the unconscious couple and takes them back to his property. Vincent, along with his sister Ida run the Motel Hell(o), while also selling Vincent’s famous smoked meats. The recipe for these meats, they tell is a secret and no one actually knows what makes them taste so good…
Terry wakes up in the motel, where Vincent gives her the news her boyfriend has passed away and been buried. At first upset, she soon accepts what she’s told and decides to stay on the farm at the Motel with duo. Besides them, we’re also introduced to little brother Bruce, the town Sheriff who is wacky and at times downright uncomfortable toward Terry.
As romance builds suddenly between Terry and Farmer Vincent, Bruce jealously starts poking around the farm as he believes something else must be going on. This (as well as what we’ve been seeing all throughout the movie) exposes what Vincent has really been planting and smoking all along - human meat! Leading to our final showdown and final set of laughs, is it worth the watch!?
YES. There’s a lot of inconsistency and weirdness through this entire film, but somehow the dark humor manages to work. The plot is very loose, and was originally set to be a serious gorehound flick. Changing to comedy was a smart move, and the movie doesn’t take itself too seriously. Even with its downfalls, it’s gained cult following over the years. I recommend checking it out at least once!

Juneteenth is a important day in the coffee industry, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! As a musician and mixed race marriage partner I can see the connections between the struggles for freedom and justice in the alternative music scenes and the fight for equality that Juneteenth represents.
As a coffee entrepreneur, it's important to acknowledge that the coffee industry has a dark history, that needs to be acknowledged. It's tied to the exploitation of workers, including the slaves who were forced to toil on plantations. Juneteenth reminds us of the ugly truth that freedom was denied to so many for far too long.
But here's where we can make a change. Juneteenth is a call to action for the coffee industry and music fans to acknowledge its past and actively work towards a more inclusive and just future. It's about recognizing the contributions of African Americans in the industry and ensuring they get the recognition and respect they deserve.
Juneteenth gives us a chance to challenge the status quo and promote diversity and inclusion within the coffee industry. It's not just about ticking boxes or token gestures; it's about real change, real empowerment.
Let's use Juneteenth as a platform for education and awareness. Let's educate coffee consumers about the significance of this day, encouraging them to support African American-owned coffee businesses. Let's make sure the coffee industry provides equal opportunities for African American workers and breaks down the systemic barriers that have held them back for too damn long.
And while we're at it, let's kick some ass and support African American coffee growers. Let's demand fair trade practices, fair prices, and fair treatment for those who grow the beans we love to grind. Juneteenth can be a catalyst for economic empowerment and solidarity.
So, music lovers and coffee drinkers, let's embrace Juneteenth and make it a punk-rock rebellion against the injustices of the past. Let's make the coffee industry a shining example of what can be achieved when we stand together and fight for freedom, justice, and equality.

She's back for the attack! Kris the Horror Queen is back with some of the best horror that was just too good for the theaters and went straight to video! This week Kris has Blood and Black Lace from 1964.
Blood and Black Lace, originally titled 6 donne per l'assassino, was released in 1964 on multiple dates in Rome, Germany, and France. Directed by Mario Bava after his departure from Galatea Film, it faired rather unsuccessful upon release. Boasting a low budget, it was a French, Italian, and German production featuring a multilingual cast. Although it did not start the trend, many have credited this film as one of the first Giallo. Utilizing flashes of color, thrilling murder mystery, and a fantastic soundtrack - this movie without a doubt grasps your attention. And keeps it.
The film opens with one of the models at Christian Haute Couture fashion house, Isabella, walking the property at night. As she proceeds, she is violently murdered. As seen with many movie of this sub genre, our killer sports a faceless mask, hat, trenchcoat, and black gloves! After the murder, we come to find Isabella kept a diary of all the staffs personal lives. The diary is found by one of the other models, and then stolen by another. The killer makes no haste in searching relentlessly for the book which holds incriminating evidence on the others - letting no one who stands in their way escape. As gruesome murder after another take place, police investigator Silvestri arrests everyone he believes to be a suspect. As the bodies pile up, we get closer and closer to finding out who could be responsible for such macabre. What motive would this killer have? Or perhaps killers? Is this the work of a sex crazed maniac, or is a deeper selfish interest at hand?
Whether you’re new to Giallo or a seasoned viewer, do not leave this one on your watchlist! This one is one of my favorites. From the mystery, to the visuals- wonderful soundtrack to the whodunnit style, you’ll never regret giving this movie a watch!

]]>Coffee has been a popular beverage for centuries and has become an integral part of modern culture. From morning rituals to social gatherings, coffee is a staple for many people worldwide. But in horror movies, coffee takes on a different role - it becomes a harbinger of doom, a warning sign of the supernatural, and an indication of imminent danger.
Weird..in our house all these things happen if you don't wake up to a cup of coffee.
Horror movies often use coffee as a symbol to foreshadow events or create a mood of unease. For example, in the movie "The Shining," the character Jack Torrance is seen drinking coffee in the opening scene. This scene sets the stage for the film's overall sense of dread and impending doom. As the film progresses, the coffee becomes a symbol of Jack's descent into madness, culminating in a terrifying scene in which he spills scalding coffee on himself.
In other horror movies, coffee serves as a tool to reveal a character's true nature. For instance, in the movie "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me," Agent Cooper's love for coffee is well-known, but it's his interactions with the sinister character of Bob that reveals something more sinister about him. In one scene, Bob asks Cooper if he wants coffee, and Cooper responds with a cryptic, "No, thanks. I've had enough."
In some horror movies, coffee is even used as a weapon against supernatural entities. In the movie "Fright Night," the character Charley Brewster uses coffee to defeat the vampire Jerry Dandrige. He throws a cup of coffee in Dandrige's face, which burns him and gives Brewster the opportunity to strike.
Overall, coffee in horror movies is used to create a sense of unease, foreshadow events, and reveal character traits. It's often associated with danger, fear, and supernatural entities. Whether it's a character drinking coffee in the opening scene, using coffee as a weapon, or simply having a cup of coffee in a creepy location, the use of this beverage in horror movies is a powerful tool for filmmakers to create a sense of foreboding and suspense.
All this leads us to how excited we are to be vending at ParaCon in Spring City PA this coming weekend, May 20/21 at the famous former Pennhurst State School campus for a THREE day Paranormal Enthusiast & Oddities Expo event featuring vendors, psychics, special Guests, historical tours, & Paranormal Investigations. Meet in person special guests like Ghost Hunters, Destination Fear, Mountain Monsters, Kindred Spirits and more!
]]>1) A Dark Roast doesn’t always make for a stronger brew! We hate to tell break the news to you, but darker roasts typically have less-not more-caffeine than light roast. Think of it like a vegetable; The longer you sauté them, the less texture and the less nutrient (or in the case of a coffee bean caffeine) it has. Similarly, dark roasted coffee does have an undeniable smokey flavor, much like blackening on a grill. Which can taste great too. But, next time you brew, try a medium or medium dark roast, but experiment with the amount of coffee you use. More coffee grinds will make for a bolder cup of coffee. Sure you can follow the directions on the coffee maker, but aren’t you more the rebellious, creative type?
2) Fresh roasted beans make a more robust brew! If you open up a bag coffee and the beans are excessively oily, beware. It could be a sign that the beans are past their prime. Keep in mind that dark roasts might be the exception. As a general rule, try to keep coffee on hand that has been roasted in the past 3 months. While coffee can never spoil, it can definitely start to loose its punch around this time period.
3) Don’t refrigerate your beans! Contrary to popular belief, you should never, ever store whole bean or ground coffee in a refrigerator. It doesn’t matter if it’s in an air tight container. There are two good reasons for this. First, the fluctuation from taping the beans in and out of the cold air will cause condensation which dehydrates the beans. Second, coffee is porous. That means it will absorb the aromas in your refrigerator. Some people like to use their coffee as a way to make the ‘fridge smell better and it will. But the coffee is absorbing the aroma of the bad produce. That means when you brew a pot, it’s going to affect the taste. Just clean your refrigerator and keep the beans in a cool dry place like a cabinet.
4) Experiment with brewing methods: While a Keurig or Mr. Coffee coffee maker set to a timer might be convent, they may not make the stronger cup you are looking for. We find that a French Press is pretty convenient and only takes about 5 minutes to brew. But why or how could it brew a stronger cup of coffee? French Presses enhance the natural favors. Using a standard coffee maker, the extracted coffee if filtered though paper which get’s rid of the coffee’s natural oils. These oils can can give you the feeling of a fuller richer cup of coffee which is part of what makes for a stronger cup of coffee.
]]> When our good friends at the Mystic Museum in Los Angeles California approached us about a new coffee they had envisioned; A double feature of extra caffeine and toffee, we knew it was the makings of a great collaboration.
Mystic Museum showcases equal parts oddities and horror memorabilia. In addition, there is merchandise and more. Their current immersive exhibit, 'Y2 Kills' is a collection of horror artifacts from the archives of the best 2k time period of horror-a time when videotapes were on the verge of becoming obsolete.
Mystic Museum resurrects that time with Slashback Video, Y2Kills exhibit, and now Toffee Double Coffee.
Toffee Double Feature takes a blend of select beans and infuses them with the rich burnt sugar, and caramelized taste of toffee. This creates a well-balanced coffee that has a natural sweetness and dark richness.
To celebrate Catfight Coffee will be at the grand opening of the Y2Kills exhibit at the Mystic Museum in Burbank on April 15th from 11am-5pm. If you are curious about how good this coffee is and love horror movies from the 2k time period, come out and try a sample.
I guess needing more space as your company grows is pretty logical to most people, but going into our 3rd year with Catfight Coffee our growth is really beyond what we ever could have imagined. We thank you, our Catfight Crew for that.
Fortunately for us, my ‘day job’ is playing rock n’ roll. Touring has now kicked back up and is stronger than ever. We play major markets daily, and more than 90% of the shows are sold out. This tour is taking me across more than 30 states over about 50 days. I thought one way to take advantage of my travels was to do research on what I thought the ideal coffee shop would be. Just like the research we have put in for our coffee, we are putting the same effort and research into our new location. Not only that but I need a good place to break out my laptop and flesh out my daily Catfight duties. It’s also a great way for us to have a stronger presence on social media pages like Tik Tok.
There is an old saying, which escapes me. But it’s something along the lines of if you don’t like a place, don’t leave it or avoid it-change it. Change it from the inside. I’ve never been a huge fan of Tik Tok, but I understand its validity and know it’s a great place to gain a following. We feel like this is a great way for us to, perhaps change it from the inside.
Besides! What a fun challenge! I feel like the Anthony Bourdain of coffee! I’m asking the local stagehands at the venue, ‘Hey! What’s the best spot for coffee!’ and really getting a local perspective.
I'm trying everything from dessert drinks to exclusive single-origin pour-overs. Truck stop coffee, to coffee from the top of what was once the highest building in the world.
This will include the coffee shops we visited in Taiwan, Cambodia, and Thailand as well! Bringing the grand total to 5 different countries across 3 continents.
Shit...what if we ended this in Mexico? The last date of the tour is in LA...who knows?!?
Please join me on the Catfight Coffee Tik Tok page for this wild adventure!
The delivery mechanism is essential to achieving the best-tasting cup of coffee. Delivery mechanism? Meaning, what kind of cup you are using?
While there are many different types of drinking vessels out there, from plastic to metal to paper, the material you choose will affect your coffee’s taste.
While there are many different types of drinking vessels out there, from plastic to metal to paper, the material you choose will affect your coffee’s taste.
There are 4 main options: plastic, paper, metal, and ceramic.
The material used will have an impact on your coffee’s flavor and here is why paper cups are the least good option. Paper cups would appear to be the best options for takeaway services and ready-to-eat food across the globe. Paper cups also do not require cleaning and can be easily discarded after use.
However, different cups retain levels of heat differently. For example, your stainless steel to-go cup may keep your coffee hotter for several hours, whereas your coffee mug at home cools off quicker. Paper cups retain heat the least well out of all the drinking cups.
Not only that, but when you heat up the paper, specifically treated paper like what a coffee cup is made out of, it can start to smell bad. Given the importance of smell in the perception of taste, this is a big deal. Additionally paper cups, too, are lined with plastic, which is why a to-go cup from your neighborhood cafe tastes different also. When that plastic melts the paper can absorb some of the tasting notes of the coffee.
This is part of the reason Catfight Coffee has reusable cups at our events. Not only do they usually have the bonus of free refills, and give you a cool product to take home, but it’s going to make for a better starting cup of coffee.
]]>Let’s get this out of the way right now. Happy Anniversary to Meiling and me! From the very beginning coffee was a big part of our relationship. Meiling and I met at cosmetology school and we would spend our breaks at the coffee shop next door, ‘just as friends’ of course. Over those cups of coffee, we got to know one another and eventually become more than friends. Once we started Catfight, all our trips centered around coffee. You could say we were in a thruple with the two of us and coffee.
On our recent trip around Asia, we noticed that a lot of independent coffee shops had not survived the lockdown of the Covid pandemic. This left us with our next option: to support smaller local chains instead of international ones.
But chains are chains. Even if they are smaller ones they are usually more concerned with the number of orders than the quality of the product. So, we were often disappointed in our morning cappuccinos which were more like lattes…or worse, a cup of hot milk with a single, sad shot of espresso.
As a way to test the barista and make sure they were paying attention, we would often ask for Dry Cappuccinos.
Before we discuss what a dry cappuccino let’s discuss what a REAL cappuccino is. A real Cappuccino is 1/3 espresso, 1/3 milk, and 1/3 foam. Preferably in an 8 oz coffee mug.
A dry cappuccino is when you get less milk and a little more foam. By asking for a dry cappuccino it makes the barista pay attention to the ratios in your drink. It lets them know you might be a picky customer and therefore shouldn’t screw up your drink. For my personal taste, I would rather taste more espresso than the aforementioned cup of hot milk with a shot of espresso in it so it’s a bit of a win/win.
Next time you go to a new coffee shop and don’t have confidence in the barista, try asking for a Dry Cappuccino.

]]>Second, a bit of news from the U.K. It's been easily a year in the works. Between Covid complications and our high standards, it started to feel like our dream of having Catfight Coffee roasted right in London was slipping away. Finally, we have arrived at a roasting facility that holds coffee in the same regard we do and by springtime (or sooner) you will be able to buy Catfight Coffee online, get beans roasted, and shipped domestically. These roasters have been roasting coffee since 1963 when they created some of the best-tasting coffees on the Thames Barrier market. This will be so much more affordable for both the product and for shipping to our crew in the UK and EU.
This is just the tip of the tail. Wait till you see what Catfight has in store for 2023!
]]>“Caffeine intake suppresses bacteria and research has shown that both long-term coffee consumption as well as drinking two or more cups of coffee daily increases good bacteria in the gut compared to those who don’t drink coffee. It’s been shown that high caffeine intake positively affects the microbiome by increasing anti-inflammatory bacteria and reducing harmful bacteria, while the chlorogenic acid in coffee also appears to contribute to health in a wide variety of ways. Research has also shown that coffee appears to have an antioxidant, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effect on the lining of the digestive tract, but again it doesn’t specify if having it before, during, or after a meal is ideal,” say say Lyssie Lakatos, RDN, CDN, CFT and Tammy Lakatos Shames, RDN, CDN, CFT who make up the duo known as the Nutrition Twins blog on wellandgood.com
So, what’s the deal? Coffee before breakfast or during according to doctors?
Stephanie Nelson, RD, a lead nutrition scientist at MyFitnessPal summed it up best. “If you drink coffee on an empty stomach and the effects bother you, then you're better off eating something with your coffee," she says. "However, if you don't experience stomach issues after drinking coffee on an empty stomach, there's nothing harmful about drinking coffee before breakfast.”
According to us, just drink coffee all day and you'll cover all the bases.
]]>“When making pour overs it's incredibly helpful to be able to focus the pour on specific areas rather than splashing it all across the brew bed, and also to use the speed of the pour to manage the coffees extraction time.” says Jackson O’Brien, a technician and trainer for Peace Coffee in Minneapolis.
You don’t need a gooseneck kettle when with brewing methods that require full immersion of the coffee grounds, like French presses or Aeropresses. These grounds will be fully saturated and hang out with water for a period of time. Gooseneck kettles are primarily for brewers like a Hario V60 or a Chemex and our Fellow Pour-Over Stag Kit.
So, how does a gooseneck kettle control the flow rate of water? It's all about that slinky shape and design. “Kettles whose spouts come out from the top of the vessel are going to have vastly variable flow rates depending on how full the vessel is and the angle the person holding it pours,” O’Brien says. “Gooseneck kettles have the water exit the kettle at the bottom of the kettle, so the flow rate isn't going to be affected by how full the kettle is. In addition the fact that the tube is of a uniform diameter across the entire length means that the angle of the user's pour isn't going to affect the flow rate too much.”
But don't take our word for it. Check out the Fellow gooseneck kettle we offer, and if you are curious about pour-over coffees pair it with our Stag pour-over kit. Not for nothing, but this does make for a great gift for the coffee lover in your life!
Welcome back for more VHS reviews, and today…… That’s not cranberry sauce!

]]>Coffee has traditionally been regarded as a digestif, which refers to a beverage that purportedly aids digestion when consumed after a meal.
While the coffee and digestion evidence isn't strong enough to suggest the brew can actually help break down food more efficiently, a July 2017 study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences outlined how caffeine stimulates release of stomach acid. In turn stomach acid is needed to aid in the digestion of proteins.
So what Catfight Coffee’s would we recommend you bring to Thanksgiving dinner?
Great Pumpkin- This one should be obvious. Imagine taking an already amazing single-origin Colombian coffee and introducing it to your favorite time of year-Fall. That's our Great Pumpkin Coffee.
*low stock alert* only a few bags left Once it’s gone, it’s gone!
Black Magic-We take a Latin American blend of coffee and carefully infuse it with natural essence. This conjures the taste of walnut, sweet chocolate, and aroma of Mahogany in a natural process that’s still safe for those with nut allergies. Black Magic is a French Roasted Columbian Coffee very subtly infused with all-natural flavors of walnut, vanilla, and chocolate. Perfect to drink after Pecan or Pumpkin Pie.
Black Pumpkin-What happens with there is a double feature a the drive inn featuring Black Magic, and Great Pumpkin? No, it’s not Freddie vs Jason, it’s way better than that! One of our Catfight Crew mentioned that they were mixing Great Pumpkin with Black Magic. We thought it was such a Meowgical idea that we put it on our range. Since one of the components is Great Pumpkin, which we are low on, that also means that we will be running out of Black Pumpkin shortly as well.
Catapult-What better way to keep the food coma at bey than our Catapult Espresso roast coffee. This is by and far, our boldest, darkest coffee yet. For our 2nd anniversary blend, we wanted to pay our respect to the godfather of all coffees, the classic Italian Dark Roast! After a trip to Italy, and doing heavy research at Italian cafes, we discovered that a blend of Brazil, Colombian, and Uganda beans was the way to go.
]]>Beethoven isn’t the only brilliant artist who was a coffee lover. From David Lynch to James Franco, L. Frank Baum to Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard.
According to Coffee or Die Magazine, Beethoven likely learned how to make coffee at a young age. At 19, he was the youngest member of the Hapsburg Empire's court orchestra and was relegated to performing kitchen duties during their tours of the Rhine. Though he became known as an awful cook, this did not translate to his coffee-making skills.
What was the secret?
Beethoven would count out 60 coffee beans every morning. He believed that this was the number of beans that would make a perfect cup of coffee. Sixty ground beans is roughly equivalent to 8 grams (enough for a decent espresso), though this wasn't invented until 1884, according to Open Culture. Beethoven used a glass, balloon-style coffee maker of his own invention, which probably looked similar to a modern siphon brewer. But it must have pulled a great cup of coffee because this ritual remained unchanged for the remainder of Beethoven's short life.
]]> Obviously, summer has faded into fall. With that, many people will be switching from cold brew coffee to hot. So, why not talk about the difference in your health between these two versions of coffee? Do they affect your health differently? And are they big enough to make any permanent changes in your caffeine consumption?
Dr. Majid Basit, a cardiologist with Memorial Hermann in Sugar Land, Texas says “Hot coffee has been shown to have higher amounts of antioxidants, which may offer health advantages. But more research needs to be done.”
A 2018 study in Scientific Reports found that hot coffees higher level of antioxidants which can prevent or slow damage to cells compared to cold brew. But it is important to note that the differences are not big enough to overcome variables so you’ll get your solid dose of caffeine whether hot or cold.
Basit says “Caffeine increases brain alertness and general energy levels.” But, in a lab experiment researchers found that a single whiff of hot coffee was enough to reduce tiredness and stress levels. Hot coffee has more vapers emanating from it so that may be the reason.
So the bottom line is there is no or very little difference – drink what you like!! As long as it's Catfight!
]]>When it’s cool outside, reaching for a hot beverage seems to have a comforting impact on the body. Did you know that coffee remains the most sought-after beverage (after water) when temperatures start to freeze? But what coffee are we craving most in cold weather?
Most people drink hot coffee during cold weather with the intent of warming up the body, whereas we drink it to keep from committing homicides. It may seem that hot coffee helps warm up the body in cold weather, but the truth is, the stimulant has a very low impact on body temperature. It does, however, help your body relax and feel comfortable. Besides, wrapping your hands around the cup helps keep the hands warm, especially when exposed to cold.
So, what Catfight Coffees lend themselves to the Fall vibe?
Black Pumpkin Limited; This coffee was a concoction formulated by one of our Catfight Crew. They mixed Black Magic with our Great Pumpkin and Black Pumpkin was born. Much like our Great Pumpkin, this isn't as heavy on the 'spice' side and more on the pumpkin pie side. The Black Walnut infusion adds richness and depth. Grab some here!
Great Pumpkin, Fall Infusion; We knew we wanted to, and needed to have something that represented the Pumpkin Spice Latte crowd. Which we loved...right up till every 'Karen' in America ripped it out of our hands and claimed it for their own. We scrutinized what we liked and didn't like about the run of the mill Pumpkin Spice. We felt that sometimes the 'spice' component could taste synthetic (though it's not). It could distract from the pumpkin taste. We went with more of a Nutmeg spice rather than Cinnamon and have been very happy with the results! Grab some here.
Evil Dead, Pecan Tennessee Whiskey; There are lot's of companies that license a franchise, slap the name on a bag of coffee and call it a day. That ain't us. Since the original movie Evil Dead takes place in Tennessee we thought about things the state is known for. Pecans and Whiskey! So we infused a great blend of Latin American Coffees with these nuances to create this banger of a coffee. The design of the bag is pretty awesome as well! Thanks to Chris Nielsen. Grab some here!
Highlander Grogg; Again, a suggestion from the Catfight Crew. Highlander Grogg what happens with Butterscotch, Rum and Vanilla are brought together in a steaming hot (or cold brew) cup of dark rich coffee. We always make sure the infusion is done subtly so you always taste 'coffee'. One cup of Highlander Grogg and you will feel ready to conquer your enemies as you walk out into the foggy marsh of your day. Grab some here!
What's your favorite fall coffee?
