How was coffee nearly ruined for the masses!

How was coffee nearly ruined for the masses!

Walk into some specialty coffee shops, and it can feel like you've accidentally enrolled in a college chemistry class.
People are discussing the flavor notes that sound more like a wine tasting than your morning cup of coffee. Worse yet, if you are recently trying to expand your coffee knowledge, they gatekeep you.
Don't get me wrong—we love all of that nerdy stuff. We study it. We obsess over it. We literally have traveled the world to meet the farmers, producers, and espresso technicians we can find. From Italy to Asia and Central America. We've been there.

But here's the thing:
We know coffee so you don't have to!

That has always been the philosophy behind Catfight Coffee.
Ironically, history backs us up.

When coffee became more affordable in 18th-century Europe, it stopped being a luxury reserved for the wealthy and spread rapidly through the working class. In Prussia, Frederick the Great wasn't exactly thrilled. He tried discouraging—and in some cases restricting—coffee consumption, believing it threatened the economy and encouraged dependence on imported coffee instead of domestic beer. Like most attempts to keep a good thing from ordinary people, it failed.

Coffee won! We think that's worth remembering because it means the working class won.

Specialty coffee shouldn't be an exclusive club. It shouldn't require a vocabulary lesson or expensive equipment to appreciate. You don't need to know what "washed Ethiopian" means to deserve an incredible cup of coffee.
That's our job.
Whether you're on your way to work grabbing a coffee before sunrise- a nurse coming off a night shift, a college student cramming for finals, coming in to catch a vibe or someone coming in for one of our zany events, you're welcome here.
Maybe that's why Catfight Coffee feels a little different.
We proudly play punk, metal and alternative music. We love horror and independent movies. We've built a space where artists, families, business owners, and first-time coffee drinkers all end up sharing the same room.
The aesthetic might be unconventional, but the mission is simple:

Serve exceptional coffee without exceptional pretension.

Because great coffee has always belonged to the people.
